Safe Electrical Work Practices

Course Description:

This class is for employees who work on or around electrical circuits and equipment. The course provides an overview of OSHAs safe electrical work practices and procedures. Topics included in this training are, the effects of electricity on the body concerning low voltage and arc blasts, acceptable personal protective equipment and tools, lock-out/tag-out procedures, qualified and unqualified persons, and basic electrical inspection techniques.

Course Highlights:

  • Demonstrations of basic equipment such as Woodhead testers, GFCI testers, AC sensors, tic-tracers.
  • Personal protective equipment and tool samples
  • Audio visuals used for hazard recognition and training
  • Each student will receive:
    • Course manual which includes the OSHA standards and resource materials and examples.
    • A course completion certificate.

Course Objectives:

Students should be able to:

  1. Recognize immanent danger electrical conditions.
  2. Perform a basic electrical OSHA type survey.
  3. Explain the effects of electricity on the body.
  4. Understand the difference between qualified and unqualified personnel and be able to protect accordingly.
