New OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements Effective Jan. 1, 2002 Can Group Health Coverage Can Be Terminated and COBRA Offered Where the Covered Employee Is Injured &Out On Workers’ Comp Leave
On January 19, 2007, OSHA issued the final regulation that revises recording and reporting occupational injuries and illnesses. The Occupational Injury and Illness Recording and Reporting Requirements, 29 CFR Part 1904, apply to all nonexempt employers, including the construction industry. Until the new rule becomes effective January 1, 2002, employers must comply with the current rule, which has been in place since 1971. It is not too early to become familiar with the requirements and obligations under the new rule and begin training employees who have responsibilities for record keeping.
